2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct direction.

The president noted that the developers is now overhauling the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.

I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our fans.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the incoming Lead of the team. Following several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving him in the coming days. We are all excited to keep witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
